This cot quilt was made for a ‘friend’ who never paid for the fabric or even came to collect it. I am donating it to the fire victims.

This quilt was started in a workshop with Noelene Houghton a few years ago and finished shortly after. It was then put away ‘to quilt soon’. Finally it was quilted by Norma Aitken as my Christmas present – and I love it. I have a few quilts put away to quilt later and I am determined to reduce the pile this year. PS Still no label though.

Jo O'Mara - Alistair’s Monkey Quilt
I got ½ the fabrics from my mother-in-law in Chicago and the rest from Amitie. Amitie had a similar quilt to this and they told me it was ‘quick and easy’! Well – it took me about a day to sew it together and over a year to snip it BECAUSE IT WAS SO BORING! Never again.

Pat Wright - Jinny Beyer blocks. A traditional setting.
Some time ago a friend gave me a book about machine quilting, something I have avoided. There were many good suggestions in the book, including just put some blocks together and get started, the theory being that by the time the quilt is finished, the quilter will have improved. I learnt a lot of things quilting this, including the fact that while a couple of glasses of red wine relax the shoulders they certainly don’t contribute to the accuracy. There are many horrible mistakes in this quilt but I’m going to keep it as it is a yardstick for future progress.

An interesting technique I tried from a book but now I don’t know what to do with it. Any suggestions?

Evelyn Vesper - Silver Fern Bag
Designer/pattern maker: Mary Metcalf design from Kiwiquilts. A quick and easy bag to make. I didn’t have the suitable dark blue fabric, so I stamped the fern design on plain fabric.
